"Particularly Dangerous Fire Situation" - Updated 8:20pm PST

There are now two fires menacing the Southland. The Palisades Fire
has been burning all day.
The new inland fire is called the "Eaton Fire" and it is near Pasadena.

The above fire has increased rapidly this afternoon. It was evidently started by fireworks just after midnight. Image below from RAWS Alerts:

Those are the words of the National Weather Service in Los Angeles pertaining to tomorrow's (Wednesday's) fire risk. The highest risk is the purple area in the mountains above Los Angeles and Oxnard.
I was told some have trouble, especially newer residents, imagining a major wildfire. To the extent that may be true with our readers, the photo is from 2021 in the New York Post.
As of now, the exact cause of the Palisades Fire remains under investigation.
ReplyDeleteEarly reports suggest that extreme winds played a significant role in the fire’s rapid spread.
In the past, fireworks have been known to cause wildfires; however, there is no current evidence linking fireworks to the ignition of the Palisades Fire.
Authorities are focusing on the combination of dry conditions and strong winds as primary factors contributing to the fire’s behavior.
Causation will be sorted in coming days, with speculation at the moment unhelpful.
