Here is the tornado forecast for the rest of the night (till 6am CST).
- Red, hatched = high risk of strong tornadoes.
- Yellow, hatched = enhanced risk of strong tornadoes.
- Blown = significant risk of tornadoes.
This will be the last update of the night.
Tornado Watch until 2am.
6:15pm
NWS believes the chances for tornadoes and damaging winds are increasing in Mississippi. They also say they are going to extend the tornado watch to the east later this evening.
Here is the area where tornadoes are more likely
from 4:30 to 7:30pm.
Rare "Particularly Dangerous Situation" Tornado Watch till 9pm
Note the forecast is for "numerous strong tornadoes."
A very rare "particularly dangerous situation" tornado watch
is going to be issued for the area outlined in red.
Please make sure your family and friends are aware of the threat. If you live in a mobile home, it may be a good idea to make arrangements to spend the period from 3p to at least 6p with friends or family.
Tornado Forecast Issued at 1:15pm.
Here is a forecast of the area from 1:30 to 4:30pm of where tornadoes are more likely. Over time, the primary threat is going to shift from east Texas into Louisiana.

National Weather Service says the circled area has the highest risk of tornadoes during the next two hours. The weather situation is such that the chance of tornadoes will rapidly increase in western Louisiana around and after about 2pm.

The high risk area has been expanded in size and the significant area has been extended east into Georgia.
Allow me to decode the colors using my 4-point scale:
- There is a high risk of strong tornadoes in the red area. Some tornadoes may reach or exceed EF-3 intensity.
- There is an enhanced risk of strong tornadoes (EF-2 or stronger).
- There is a significant risk of tornadoes in the brown area.
The chance for tornadoes will start to increase around 10-11am CST and continue into the afternoon. There is a risk of tornadoes and damaging winds past midnight (Sunday morning) in Alabama and south Tennessee.
There is also an enhanced risk of damaging thunderstorm winds of 75 mph or stronger in the hatched area. Power outages are likely. Please prepare accordingly. Winds of 60 mph or stronger possible in the unhatched red and yellow areas.
It is important, especially if you have holiday guests from outside Tornado Alley or the South, to have an advance plan of where to shelter and how you will receive warnings. Remember, it is vital to have at least three ways of receiving tornado warnings.
