"It Has Become an Intellectually Lazy Field, Compounded By an Incurious Press That Never Pushes Back"

The past month has clarified how Big Climate colludes with and has become imbedded in America's mainstream news media, literally. These organizations "embed" their activists in newspapers and other new organizations, even my hometown Wichita Eagle.

You'll recall even while Helene and Milton were ramping up, I was writing about Big Climate getting its press releases ready which the media would publish practically verbatim. Others have noticed. Sure enough...

With the permission of Dr. Ryan Maue (PhD in Tropical Meteorology from Florida State University and former Chief Scientist for NOAA), I'm reproducing a recent tweet of his.

Yet, "climate change is causing worse hurricanes" is not the position of mainstream climate science! I'll present that in a moment. 

A meteorology student, Chris Martz, has noticed the same thing. With permission, I'm reproducing a tweet of his:

Evidence of global warming: • Tornadoes in Tornado Alley occurring in tornado season. • Hurricanes striking Florida during peak North Atlantic hurricane season. • Wildfires in California during the wildfire season. • Flooding on flood plains. • More snowstorms. • Also less snow. • Heatwaves during the summer when it is supposed to be hot. • Arctic outbreaks during winter when it is supposed to be cold. •Droughts and floods in the same area at different times. No matter what the weather is doing, it’s always your fault and the only solution is to expand government power. Academics have become corrupted by a peer-review system which exclusively rewards research highlighting dangers of climate change and significance of CO₂ reduction in mitigating vulnerability to adverse weather. They just toss around some statistics, ignore dynamics and do some curve-fitting to produce some wild results. It has become an intellectually lazy field, compounded by an incurious press that never pushes back. Instead, journalists rehash talking points from organizations like Climate Central or World Weather Attribution (WWA) “flash studies” that aren’t subject to scrutiny in academic literature.

The "flash studies" are nothing but propaganda. I did a search via Google and DuckDuckGo to try to find a WWA study that said a storm was not caused by climate change it doesn't appear they have ever done so.

Increasingly, one could ask if climate science -- as currently practiced in the United States -- is even science. For sometime to be a science, there must be a hypothesis that can be falsified ("we predict mean temperatures will rise in the USA by 2° in the next five years" or something similar). We don't have anything like that. If tornadoes in Oklahoma in May = global warming then it isn't science -- it is propaganda/advocacy.

* The UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is considered the gold standard of where we stand with climate science. Below is Table 12.12 from their lates -- 2024 -- report which summarizes where we stand.

I have highlighted in red the items regarding wind speeds in hurricanes and flooding. At the present time, there is no detection of human influence on either at this time and none is expected to be detected in the near future even in the most dire climate scenario.
