Sunday Fun: Trains on Radar

Thursday evening, the NWS Wichita's WSR-88D radar depicted two westbound BNSF Railway trains in northern Butler County of Kansas. For train buffs, this was on the Emporia Sub of the Transcon. There was a temperature inversion which allowed the trains to be depicted along with all of the smoke from the fireworks in Wichita (across the bottom of the image).

Generally, stack trains (above) or autoracks show up best on radar on the rare occasions they are depicted.
