Big Climate Churns and Churns and Churns With the Election in Mind

I've added a hilarious clip of Bill Nye, here

Consider these headlines:

Now, take a look at the latest forecast from the National Hurricane Center.
If this forecast is correct, it would make 2024 the slowest start to a hurricane season since 2014!

I'll be the very first to say that it could still be an awful hurricane season, slow start or not. But that's not the point. After the implications that it could be a quick start to the hurricane season, excuses are already being made.

The forecasts of a bad hurricane season seem to center around the observation of warmer than average water in the hurricane breeding grounds. Some of us tried to point out that there is much more to hurricane formation than just water temperature, but those comments were largely cast aside.

Much of the above was based on Big Climate's fear mongering. As Dr. Ryan Maue pointed out on Twitter this morning, rather than using its own chief meteorologist Ginger Zee (a well-qualified meteorologist), ABC News used Bill Nye -- who knows next to nothing about weather or climate -- to recite talking points about weather and climate yesterday.
Global warming is the only 'science' that uses the same public relations techniques used for selling toothpaste.

My takes:
  • Yes it is hot. Yes, high temperatures records were set last week -- as well as dozens of cold weather records in the western United States. But, there was nothing extraordinary about last week's heat.
  • More records may be set this week but the heat may -- in part -- be related to the water vapor released into the atmosphere by the Tonga Volcano. We just don't know.
  • A national story last week about irrigation in the High Plains implying climate change is responsible for water shortages is just plain wrong. The central High Plains are significantly wetter now than 70-100 years ago. I bring this up because Big Climate's relentless propaganda campaign often seems devoid of facts and expertise (again, Nye rather than Zee).
  • The Gulf of Mexico, for the moment, has cooled since the forecasts of a terrible hurricane season were made. To emphasize: it could still be a terrible hurricane season. But, things are not as pat as climate alarmists would like you to believe.
Reminder: when there is a genuine threat of a tropical storm in the five-day or less time frame, you will find comprehensive coverage here. We do not participate in hurricane hype.

But, the propagandizing gets worse. Andy Revkin, a journalist I respect, wrote Monday morning:
Andy added:
You can go to a number of publications right now and you will find the claim the flooding in the Midwest is due to climate change-- even though there is no evidence to suggest that.

Big Climate is relentless. Their funding and, more importantly -- their power and influence --depends on the 'right' candidates being elected this fall. They see the polls that indicate support for 'green' energy and draconian measures to fight global warming have fallen through the floor.

I'm sure the press releases tying any hurricanes to threaten the U.S. to climate change have already been written. They will be sent out before landfall even occurs.

Expect more of this until the first Tuesday of November.
