6:30pm Update: Northeast Winter Storm

Here are the color codes:
  • Pink = winter storm warning. In the highlands near the Hudson Valley, amounts will likely be quite heavy with some areas receiving 15 inches or more.
  • Deep blue = winter storm watch. As expected, it was moved farther south in New York. Right now, I think NYC will have 1-4" of accumulation but it would take a shift of only about 20 miles for the city to get even higher accumulations.
  • Purple = winter weather advisory (a lesser condition).
  • Brown - high wind watch for gusts of 50 mph or stronger.
My advice from this morning still stands. If you need to get to NYC, Albany, Hartford, Providence or Boston, you would be better off moving up your flight and arriving Monday, rather than Tuesday due to winds and snow.
