Major Winter Storm: Northern U.S.A.

Here is the latest forecast of snow amounts for the northern winter storm.
It is essential that travelers factor this forecast into their plans, especially since there may be times late Wednesday and Thursday when wind gusts to 35 mph may cause drifting of the snow.

Below is a map of National Weather Service watches, warnings, et cetera.
Color code:
  • Browns and golds = various high wind warnings (brown) and advisories.
  • Pink = winter storm warning
  • Deep green = winter storm watch
  • Purple = winter weather advisory (lesser condition)
Important note: while there are no warnings as yet, some of the models are forecasting wind gusts as high as 80 mph in eastern New Mexico near I-40 and US 54 Wednesday afternoon. Blowing dust and travel issues are highly likely if that forecast is correct.
