Tornado and Severe Thunderstorm Threat Tonight through Friday Night

8pm This Evening Until 7am Friday

Within the yellow area, there is a significant risk of thunderstorms with large hail ( >1") and damaging winds (≥60mph). There is a non-zero chance of a tornado in the Kansas yellow area. This is a good night to have StormWarn which will awaken you if a tornado threatens.

7am Friday to 5am Saturday
Above is the tornado risk, with the highest probabilities between 2pm and 1am.  The brown area has a significant risk. The yellow area has an enhanced risk with the hatched area where strong tornadoes may occur. In Texas, the risk is highest east of I-35 which includes Dallas, Paris, Waco, Austin, Big Sandy and Texarkana. In Oklahoma, the highest risk includes Durant, Hugo, Lake Texoma, Broken Bow and, I would add, McAlester.

In addition to tornadoes, there is a risk of large hail and, especially, damaging thunderstorm winds. The highest overall threat is in the orange area.

I will update on this situation Friday morning here on the blog. For more real-time info, please follow me on Twitter @usweatherexpert. Note: you do not have to sign up for Twitter to follow my storm coverage.
