Middle Atlantic: How Did That Forecast Work Out?
Because I am reading some comments about the "surprise" snow in Washington and the Middle Atlantic Region, here is the forecast posted here the day before (left) and the amounts that actually fell. My full forecast was here. It included a "winter storm warning" for the District of Columbia. The official amount at Washington's Reagan Airport was 6.9 inches.
Weather science has made major strides in forecasting winter storms and I think the criticism in this case is misplaced. As far as I can tell, the NWS and others did a fine job.
