Dangerous Tornado Situation Developing

Please review the safety suggestions below
The NWS's SPC's outlook and mine are the same today. The risk characterization words are mine.
  • Extreme tornado risk in the red area, including the likelihood of strong tornadoes, some of which could occur after dark.
  • High tornado risk in the area that is in yellow plus hatching.
  • Enhanced tornado risk in the yellow area.
  • Significant tornado risk in the brown area.
Throughout the region, there is the likelihood of large hail and damaging thunderstorm winds, in addition to the tornadoes.

There is a second tornado risk region:
In far northern Minnesota, there is a significant risk of a tornado.

Recommended safety suggestions:
  • Start closely monitoring the weather after 1pm.
  • Make sure family and friends are monitoring the weather.
  • Make sure you can get family, especially infirm members, to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued.
  • Do not try to drive to a shelter after a tornado warning is issued. If a tornado watch is issued and strong thunderstorms approach you area, proactively go to your shelter area. Don't wait for a warning if you live in a mobile home or other unsafe building.
  • Insure your shelter area is ready to go. A flashlight, a couple of bottles of water, diapers, radio or TV, and always wear shoes into your shelter.
