Dangerous Wind and Tornado Situation - Northern Great Plains
Update 3:35pm CDT:
Tornado Watch issued by the National Weather Service.
Note the forecast of "strong" tornadoes along with softball-sized hail. Update 2:30pm CDT:
This is my equivalent to a tornado watch. It goes into effect at 3:15pm. It is important that people in that area prepare to take cover if a tornado warning is issued. This evening, when damaging winds develop,
power failures are possible.
The damaging winds will become much more widespread over the Dakotas after 7pm.

This is a serious situation that requires preparation.
Tornado Risk
There is an enhanced risk of tornadoes in the yellow area.
There is a significant risk of tornadoes in the brown region.
Damaging Wind Risk
There is a high risk of damaging winds -- the hatching indicate gusts to 75 mph.
In the red and purple areas, power failures are quite likely and they could last longer than 24 hours. So, plan on what you would do without electricity in hot temperatures. If you have an infirm friend or relative, now is the time to make plans -- before the storms develop.
