Forecaster Evie Says: Make Sure You Are Handling the Extreme Cold
In many areas, this will be the coldest night in three years. Forecaster Evie wants you to prepare accordingly:
- Open cabinets near pipes. The warm air inside your home makes it less likely the pipes will burst. If it is forecast to be extremely cold, run your water at a drip rate. Again, that makes it less likely pipes will burst.
- Bring your pets indoors even if they are "outdoor pets." When this intensity of cold is this infrequent, your pets are not used to it.
- Make sure your garden hose is not still connected to your home.
- Allow plenty of time to scrape your windows tomorrow morning before you head to church. If you keep your car in the garage, it is fine to warm your car in the garage but only if you open your garage door to allow the exhaust to escape. Otherwise, you are setting yourself up for carbon monoxide poisoning
