Hurricane Matthew: 8:10am CDT Monday

Matthew finally seems established on a northward path.
Winds were recently measured by a hurricane hunter at 140 mph, which is up a bit from earlier this morning. Far southwest Jamaica is going to feel the greatest effects of Matthew's winds while all of Hispaniola receives torrential rains leading to both flooding and mudslides.

Reds are hurricane warnings. Pinks are hurricane watches.

There have been hurricane hunters in the storm this morning so I think the models that are produced during the day today may be reliable enough to begin discussing what effects Matthew may have on the United States.

Please check back this afternoon for that. Plus, please check back this afternoon for a discussion of the chances for tornadoes in the Great Plains tomorrow.
