Nothing More Than Fraud
On a number of occasions I have written about airlines falsely using weather as their all-purpose excuse (example here). The general public has no way of knowing the difference.
According to The New York Daily News they tried it with weathercaster Sam Champion recently and it went over with him about as well as it does with me. Here's what happened: American oversold the flight and pulled the low fare passengers off and put the high fare passengers on in their place. From where I sit, it is a form of fraud. Then -- as usual -- they blamed it on 'weather.'
Sam wasn't pleased and I certainly don't blame him. The airlines have been getting by, for too long, with what would be considered (literally) criminal in any other industry.
Me? I avoid the airlines whenever possible.
