The global warming advocates keep telling us that global warming is causing worse storms in spite of zero statistical information to back up their claim. Here is a new plot of lightning deaths in the United States.

- A lightning education project ("When thunder roars, go indoors") from the NWS has helped.
- Deaths ≠ number of bolts.
That said, storms are not getting worse in the United States.

ReplyDeleteI don't have a comment on the study because, in this case, the statistical techniques used are beyond my current expertise.
ReplyDeleteThat said, the number of outbreaks is irrelevant. It is the number of "strong" (≥F-3) that is important. Their numbers are going down: http://www1.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/cmb/images/tornado/clim/EF3-EF5.png If you add 2015, the trend continues. Thank you for the question.
