The New York - New England Flood Threat
This satellite image depicts the amount of water locked up in the snow cover. In the bright purple colors, the amount is six inches or more. If a rapid warmup were to occur or if heavy rains occur (regardless of temperature), major flooding could result.
If this isn't bad enough, more snow is forecast for the southeast half of the region the end of the week.
What do I suggest? If you live in a low-lying or flood-prone area, it would be a good idea to think about what you would have to do if you had to quickly evacuate in the face of rising waters. In addition, please consider the following:

- Find a safe, waterproof place (safe, waterproof box, etc.) for important documents and keepsakes.
- For important large items, move them as high as possible in the home.
- If waters rise, remember: turn around, don't drown. Never try to cross flooded areas by foot or by car.
We'll keep an eye on this situation.
The flooding concern will only increase after the expected cold snap as most rivers (if they haven't already) will ice over, perhaps somewhat thickly. You run the risk of ice dams that can exacerbate the floods when they form/break.
