Google: Green Energy "Simply Won't Work"

Of course, if they had read this blog for the last five years they would have saved literally billions of dollars…
We have covered this over and over again: Solar and wind are very undependable (especially wind) and tend not to produce when needed the most and overproduce when not needed. Wind has a fundamental physics problem (conversation of alternating current to direct current and back to AC meaning huge losses in the transitions). Google's people have come to the same conclusions. You can read a more detailed description of these issues here. Google's partners state it in blunt terms:

Trying to combat climate change exclusively with today’s renewable energy technologies simply won’t work;

A breakthough (not immediately on the horizon) in battery storage technology would be a big help with alternative energy but that technology still has many problems.

Living standards are directly tied to standard of living. We need more cheap energy to lift people out of poverty. We've discussed some ways to intelligently begin the process of decarbonizing energy. Make it cheap and reliable and people will gladly switch.

These promising technologies don't catch on in green circles but they involve the N-word: Nuclear. There is a lot of magical thinking that goes in the climate cult, primarily because -- for many -- the climate issue (to the extent one exists) isn't about science but about faith. The laws of physics don't seem to matter. As long as that is the case, the chances of actually moving forward seem small.
