Sunday Fun: The National Weather Festival

If you've never been to the National Weather Festival in Norman, Oklahoma, make it a point to do so. It is a lot of fun. Here are photos from yesterday's event:
Mindy Cook was selling her new book. She is with Reed Timmer of
"Storm Chasers" fame.
One of the hourly weather balloon launches.
My friend, (and former WeatherData®) meteorologist Janice Bunting.
Janice is now President of the National Weather Assn. If you are interested in
weather, consider joining the NWA.
One of the chase vehicles from my old station, Channel 4 in OKC.
One of the many geek-mobiles!
This last photo deserves some explanation. It is a WSR-74C radar, first installed in 1975 at KSNW TV in Wichita. This radar was so advanced it had capabilities that some of today's radars do not have. We've written about what I believe is a need for the National Weather Service to install about a dozen gap-filler radars in areas their primary radars do not cover well. This is the type of radar (5cm) that would make an excellent gap-filler.
