Earthquake!

USGS "did you feel it map", thanks Nate Johnson
At 3:41pm, a substantial earthquake was felt in Wichita. I know that people felt it from as far south as Norman, OK and northwest Arkansas. I'll have more info when available.

Seismograph from Lake Charles, Arkansas:
I'll continue to post as more information arrives.

3:59pm: Groundbreaking or ground shaking?

4pm: USGS Preliminary: 4.8 magnitude centered 8 mi. south of Conway Springs, KS which is about 40 miles southwest of Wichita.

Here is the USGS shake map. There may be some light damage in yellow area.
USGS: It was felt in Irving, Texas, a suburb of Dallas.

KFDI FM: Reliable report of minor structural damage near Milan, Kansas. This is very near the epicenter along U.S. 160 west of Wellingon, Kansas.

A Wichita construction company adds in a little humor.

Comments

  1. My co-workers and I felt the building slightly sway at Children's Mercy Hospital in downtown Kansas City. We speculated it was an earthquake. Crazy!
