This is a Dangerous Hurricane!
I heard on the radio a tourist on the Outer Banks of North Carolina say he was sticking around to get "the Jim Cantore experience"-- a reference to the former Weather Channel meteorologist who reports from outdoors during bad weather.
That is a terrible idea!
Hurricanes have wide variations in the wind speeds as shown below (data from 3:05pm EDT). These dangerous winds combined with storm surge.
All hurricanes are dangerous and Arthur is no exception. There will be wind gusts above 100 mph with this storm! Power will fail. Some will be cut off due to flooded and blocked roads. If you don't follow local evacuation advice, you might be stuck for days.

As Forrest Gump says "Stupid is as stupid does."
ReplyDeleteNot only will power fail, but those who remain better be prepared to be self-sufficient for 72 or more hours. Including bottled drinking water.
"former Weather Channel meteorologist"? He's on the air today...
ReplyDeleteI wish someone would tell Cantore to get off the beach. He wouldn't park under an overpass in a tornado.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm not a fan of meteorologists in the "do what I say, not as I do mode." It sets a very bad example.
