Dangerous Ice Storm
The NWS Storm Prediction Center has identified an area where the freezing rain (glaze ice) is increasing (scalloped area in blue):
The NWS Dual-Polarization Radar out of Memphis shows it is almost all freezing rain rather than sleet/ice pellets.
This data tends to validate the Sperry-Piltz Ice Accumulation Index value of 3 (red) on the graphic below:
A blue of 3 indicates that some areas could have power outages lasting 1 to 5 days. If you live in this area, before you go to bed for the night you may want to make sure your cell phone is fully charged. Because of darkness and slick roads, it is probably too late for the other precautions.
