Drought Update
The drought in the central U.S. continues to erode from east to west in this week's update.
There is patchy improvement in the West. However, the Northeast has seen drought conditions develop over the last month. The above map has a data cut off of 7am this past Saturday. Since then, the newest
rainfall map shows some improvement in North Carolina and West Virginia. However, western North Carolina had flash floods and mudslides over the weekend due to the excessive rainfall (more than six inches in some locations).
Some improvement is forecast for the Northeast this week.
Needed rain will also fall in parts of the Plains but with the risk of tornadoes. I'll have more on that later this afternoon.
