"Hail Spikes"

Why am I so sure there is large hail with the storms on the Oklahoma border (radar at 6:56pm CDT)? The dual-pol data and the "VIL" data shows it but there is an even simpler way. Both storms have "hail spikes" (not the "official name" but good enough). If spikes like these appear on the side of the storm away from the radar (which is in Wichita) it is nearly certain hail ≥1" will occur. These are so pronounced I believe it is 2" or larger.

ADDITION: Ben Holcomb has a photo of the storm at this time here.
