Some Things Are Not Forecastable

Look at the above radar image from this morning. The yellow is snow falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. Look how the snow area wraps around the District of Columbia!

There are many complaints appearing on the internet about the quality of forecasts of this storm as they pertain to the District (there was no accumulation). As a meteorologist, I can tell you that this meteorological quirk is not forecastable. As I understand it, forecasts for the western suburbs were good.

Like many, I'll be happy when snow forecasting season is over.
