Cold Wave Update
I'm again getting reader questions asking why I'm not giving greater coverage to the potential extreme cold that is likely to occur later this month.
I agree that there is a better than 50/50 chance that extreme cold will move into the eastern half of the U.S. The problem is that it is too soon to pin down exactly when and where.
But, from the perspective of getting people prepared, here is what the low temperature map looks like (from the European model) ten days from today:
The map shows the cold air streaming into the northern tier of states, possibly headed for the Middle Atlantic region. Low temperatures are colder than -20°F in some areas!
Be assured that I will be keeping an eye on this and when it gets clearer I'll provide additional coverage.
