The Value of The Tornado Warning System

In the mid-20th century, tornados terrorized the US due to the fact that at that time there was a ban on tornado warnings and triple digit deaths were common. In 1957 the ban crumbled and the birth of tornado warnings began the research of the 1970's to the 1990's culminating with the invention and implementation of Dopplar Radar that has saved so many lives.

Mike was the guest speaker at the Ark CityRotary Club noon meeting held yesterday at Cowley College. Mike presented The Value of the Tornado Warning System to a packed audience and took questions and answers after his presentation.

.
US Congressman Mike Pompeo from Kansas's 4th district was in the audience and stopped by to say hello to Mike at the lectern.

Mike's passion is saving lives, and he impressed upon the audience that  the funding for the Tornado Warning System must be protected or the possibility of going back to triple-digit deaths could become a reality once again. The full story can be found in Mike's first book, Warnings: The True Story of How Science Tamed the Weather.

Mike spoke last night to the Old Town Rotary Club in Wichita and will be a guest speaker at Wichita State Campus West location tomorrow evening at 7:00.
