Visit the Flint Hills
Sunday, I wrote a piece about visiting Colorado Springs and how you should consider it if you have not yet made your summer vacation plans.
It is possible to combine a driving vacation to Colorado Springs with a visit to the Kansas Flint Hills. And, there is a new attraction in the Hills that I want to tell you about courtesy of The Wichita Eagle.
It is in The Little Apple, Manhattan, Kansas, and it is called the Flint Hills Discovery Center. The full story, including hours of operation, are at the green link above. The Center explains the unique nature of the Hills and gets a very favorable review from the Eagle. Manhattan is a fun town to visit with Kansas State University, Aggieville (family dining) and a wonderful restaurant for adults called Harry's Uptown that the Smith Family highly recommends.
From Manhattan, you can drive south and tour the hills including the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve just north of Strong City.
And, in case you missed it, here is my 2012 visitor's guide to the Flint Hills.
