A Note of Thanks
We get some nice notes from nice people, and Greg Roberts, a firefighter from Norman, Oklahoma recently had these kind words to say.....
"Just a
note to tell you how much I am enjoying your book WARNINGS: The True Story of How Science Tamed the Weather. One of the reasons why I purchased it was
that it has a chapter that details the severe weather events of June 8, 1974 in
central Oklahoma. I was 13 years old at the time, living in Norman, and
the events of that day are crystal clear in my memory…like it happened last
week. This was the first significant tornado outbreak that I can
remember.
We
always watched WKY-TV news and weather, especially on days of severe
weather. On June 8th, you, Jim Williams and Larry
Brown were on tv constantly for several hours and at one point I recall Larry
saying “Drumright has been wiped off the map”, talking about the F-4 that
happened in that area. You guys did a superb job that day! It took
years to realize that WKY was far ahead of their time in tracking severe
weather and getting the warnings out to the public. Much of the weather
coverage that we enjoy today stems from that era and some of the groundbreaking
work that guys like you and Jim Williams did.
I am a
32 year Captain with the Norman Fire Department and still keenly interested in
severe weather".
