2012 Winter Wheat Crop

Update (3pm Monday) on the harvest from The Wichita Eagle

ORIGINAL POSTING:
Taken this afternoon in southern Butler Co., Kansas
I don't think I've ever seen the wheat in south central Kansas look as good as it does right now. It is ripening rapidly.

The harvest in Texas and Oklahoma has reached as far north at Interstate 40. Reports are a bumper crop there, as well.

Of course, there is no bigger threat to ripe wheat than weather, especially hail. Quite a bit of it fell west of Wichita yesterday evening. The purple and white symbols indicate large hail with quite bit of it falling in Harper, Kingman and Reno counties larger than 1" in diameter.
