Speaking of Apocalyptic Predictions...

...remember how, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the pro-global warming crowd filled the media with predictions of ever more Katrinas?

Hasn't happened. In fact, courtesy of Dr. Roger Pielke, Jr., the United States is now in its third longest period without being struck by a major (categories 3,4,5) hurricane! Here is his graph.
The red line is the trend, which is flat.

All that said, keep in mind that all of the long-range hurricane forecasts of which I'm aware for this season are forecasting more than average numbers of hurricanes. So, just because we have gone a while without a major hurricane is no reason to let your guard down if you live on or near the coast.
