If Jim Had Been Reading This Blog, He Would Not Have Been Surprised!
If you scroll down, you see the coverage of the thunderstorms rolling into Chicago, including an AccuWeather lightning chart. If Jim had been reading this blog or getting his weather from AccuWeather, he wouldn't have been surprised!
Watch the video here.
UPDATE 9:05pm Wednesday: Because we always strive to be accurate, please see the comment below. Jim apparently HAD mentioned the potential for snow thunderstorms.

Nice plug for Accuweather, Mike, but I seriously doubt Jim's reaction was due to a lack of awareness that it was possible. I'd venture a guess that his reaction was based on the fact that it took place almost right over his head!!!
ReplyDeleteThe level of surprise, to me, is inconsistent with advance knowledge lightning was coming. Most meteorologists would have said something like, "wow, our team forecast this and here it is" or something similar. There is nothing in the video that indicates he thought this was coming.
ReplyDeleteWith regard to our coverage, we EXPLICITLY said thunderstorms with snow were moving toward Chicago.
I'm not a huge fan of the weather channel, but I did watch some and cantore was sayin thundersnow was likely even the night before, so indent your being completely fair here. Chuck in kentucky
ReplyDeleteChuck,
ReplyDeleteThank you. To be fair to Jim and TWC, I have updated the post to reflect your observation in bold face type.
Mike
Really? "Most meteorologists would have said something like, "wow, our team forecast this and here it is" or something similar. There is nothing in the video that indicates he thought this was coming."
ReplyDeleteDisagree completely. He went to Chicago because he thought it would be ground zero for the worst conditions, which it was. I'm sure he knew the possibility of TSSN was pretty high. Who in their right mind would pimp their own forecast after seeing lightning in a blizzard?? It's called being excited and showing your passion and true love for meteorology.
