Meanwhile in Upstate New York

Blog reader and meteorologist Roger Caiazza writes about the 72" in snow that has fallen in December in Syracuse, NY. For those of us who don't live downwind of the Great Lakes, Roger sends along these photos.
The ruler reads 25 inches. 
There aren't six foot "snow tunnels." The snow is wet (high water content) dry and quickly compacts. And, the ground was warm so there was some melting from below.

Roger notes that these are color photos. During the five cooler months, the skies around the Great Lakes are very cloudy.
