Now They Know How the Passengers Feel
Airline Steward at JFK Pulls Emergency Chute, Flies Coop
A flight attendant ran out of patience on a plane that just landed at JFK on Monday afternoon, so he allegedly cursed a blue streak over the p.a. system, grabbed some beers, pulled the emergency chute, slid down and ran from the plane, sources said.
UPDATE: 3PM Tuesday. Following from Yahoo News quoting the flight attendant's attorney:
"People just don't have courtesy for one another. He's been in the airline industry since he's 19 and people just aren't polite. I don't know if you travel, aren't you aware of how rude people are?" defense lawyer Howard Turman said.
"I think in this case more importantly is about the level of civility among us that is missing in the airline industry," he said.
Airline travel is not only discourteous, it is dehumanizing. TSA procedures that vary from airport to airport and screener to screener with the screeners shouting at their "customers"? The nude-o-scopes taking images of little children?
Too many airline employees have chips on their shoulders after years of givebacks. Those bad attitudes at the ticket counter combined with the often rude TSA puts the passengers in a bad mood before they ever get on the plane.
So, yes, airline travel is uncivil. Its time for that to change, starting at the departure airports.
