Global Warming -- Is There Anything It Can't Do?

You knew this was coming...

So, let me get this straight:  Europe has the coldest winter in 50+ years, so 'global warming' "triggers" this volcano.

There are days that this topic makes me embarrassed to be a scientist.

  1. This is CRAZY; this story is the type I expect to see in the Onion. I counted at least a dozen 'qualifying' phrases in the article, such as...

    "could affect the Earth's crust"
"could trigger activity such as earthquakes and tsunamis"

Okay, I suppose it's technically accurate to say that global warming 'could' trigger these events. But isn't it also accurate to say that global warming 'may not' trigger these events?

  2. Yes, this story is so bad that it is truly embarrassing. Given that world ice in general and Arctic ice in particular are at normal levels, there is zero reason to believe GW had anything to do with it.
