"Tipsy From Tipping Points" -- Continued
Since 2013, I have running an occasional series titled "Tipsy From Tipping Points" which chronicles all of the nonsense deadlines, set by Al Gore and other global warming alarmists, that we have bypassed without the predicted harm coming to pass. Wednesday, the New York Times published another of these stories with a silly deadline (headline above).
The NYT story extolls President Biden's climate plan which is nothing but magical thinking as an excuse for spending trillions and shrinking our freedoms.
Kansas' Wolf Creek Nuclear Power Plant |
Should we de-carbonize energy? Yes! But it can be done without destroying electric reliability (wind energy) or creating blackouts, and at reasonable cost. The solutions?
- Nuclear power. We know how to do it for reasonable cost. The design used at Wolf Creek and Callway is proven and very reliable (as opposed to wind which is extremely unreliable). Once built, nuclear energy is cheap.
- Hydroelectric power. Remember those plans back in the 60's and 70's to build more reservoirs in California and a couple of other spots in the West? Dust them off! No one has seen a smelt fish in decades (really). It is time to declare it extinct and build some dams. Not only do you get power, you get essential water storage in the feast/famine climate of the West.
This is how we decarbonize without restraining freedom or increasing poverty. It really is that easy.
However, many in Big Climate evidently want a political issue as opposed to solving the problem. So, keep that in mind when you read nonsense like Mr. Manjoo's opinion piece.
